The pandemic is hurting small businesses
I know the the post was hopeful, well the hopefulness is just about dead. The last post I said it was just until April 7th. Then the end date was April 15 then April 30th. Well on April 30th the federal stay at home order ended and many states started the slow reopening. Not my state, the governor of my state extended it to May 30th. Which means my kids will not get to go back to in person learning they have to finish the school year e learning. My son’s graduation will not be the normal ceremony it will be a live stream of the names being said then going to the school to pick up his diploma with out coming in contact with people. My daughter missed out on a play she was a part of because it was canceled. My daughter will also be turning 16 during this crap.
The upside is the governor is going to start opening the state up in regions which means we could be to a more normal life before school starts in august. I sure hope so. But in the mean time small businesses are hurting. Now a lot of them could be opening soon. Unfortunately writers and artists who depend on events like craft shows and conventions to get the art or books sold will be hurting much longer. And it sucks because we depend on the in person sales to try to break even at the least but would be doing better if we could make a profit off the sales.
I know I am not depending on my book sales to live but a lot of writers and artists do depend on the sale of their product to make a living. I also understand that saving people’s lives by staying home is great and we have flatten the damn curve but we need to get back to working and selling our products again. I know the pandemic is hard on everyone but if people can’t work and put food on our tables more people will suffer.
I am not saying we have to get back to normal right now but we need to start moving forward. Yes keep social distancing, keep washing your hand, wear a mask over your nose and mouth if you are able. But keep moving forward.
I try not to post things like this but right now it needs to be posted. I am getting off my soap box now to get some writing done before my kids get up.
